From Saigon to Success

The Inspiring Story of
Author Thuy Reed

Thuy Reed’s life is a testament to courage and perseverance. In 1975, at the young age of 21, she left her life in Saigon behind and arrived in the United States. With limited English and a hopeful heart, Thuy began a new chapter filled with challenges and opportunities.

Despite starting with very little, Thuy never gave up. She found strength in education, enrolling in school at 25. Through her studies, Thuy learned about America and discovered a passion for healing the wounds left by the war.

Thuy’s dedication to fostering understanding between the US and Vietnam has become her lifelong mission. Her insightful commentary has been featured in prestigious publications like the Los Angeles Times, and local news outlets have recognized her work.

While sometimes mistaken as the inspiration for the musical “Miss Saigon,” Thuy acknowledges the play’s connection to the Vietnam War bar scene. Interestingly, she was profiled in a major New York Newsday feature when the musical debuted on Broadway in 1991.

Thuy’s book, “Dear America: From Vietnam with Love,” expresses her deep gratitude for the opportunities America provided. This journey from a “bar girl” to a successful author is a powerful reminder that anything is possible with hard work and determination.
